Despite the Rumours, LGB Brass is Entertaining!

LGB Brass claimed first place in B section Of the Southern Counties Amateur Band Associations entertainments contest held recently at the Hawth Theatre in Crawley on Sunday 16^th May 2015.

The band performed a lively and entertaining mix of music which led to adjudicator John Maines placing them first in a keenly contested competition making this the fourth time in recent years that LGB Brass has won this contest under the expert direction of their MD Ian Stewart.

The sparkling opener of The Saints arranged by Goff Richards started the bands set which was followed by Paul Lovatt Coopers Donegal Bay played with great style and warmth by the bands newly appointed assistant MD James Emberley on euphonium. The arrangement by Dave Collins of the unusually titled Rochdale Cocconut Dance made an enjoyable feature which was directly contrasted by the fantastic and emotive Irish Tune From County Derry composed by Percy Grainger and arranged by Dennis Wright. The bands performance concluded with Brian Bowens Folk Heroes, titled as a rhapsody for brass band which featured traditional folk tunes including among others Johnny Todd, Soldier Soldier Wont You Marry Me, An Eriksay Love Lilt, and concluding with variations on For He’s a Jolly Good Fellow. And wasn’t he? John Maines concluded his remarks stating “Overall a varied and entertaining programme thanks” And so we can conclude that despite the rumours LGB Brass is entertaining!

The band continues this year with a trip to the Saddleworth Whit Friday March contests at the end of May, and a busy summer season of events which culminates in the annual Last Night of the Proms Concert held in the Paddock, Lewes, and complete with a firework finale provided by our friends at Commercial Square Bonfire Society.
