It is with mixed emotions that we share the news that our long standing friends and friendly rivals, Battle Town Band, have formally disbanded after many years of dedicated music making. Like many community brass bands, they had faced a growing challenge of dwindling membership, particularly due to the decline in brass teaching provision across East Sussex.

We’ve shared many contest stages with Battle over the years – sometimes we came out on top, and often, they did! That spirited competition made us all better players, and we’re grateful for it.

In the true spirit of community, the Battle Town Band committee has worked tirelessly over the past two years to ensure their instruments, music library, and remaining funds continue to support brass music and education. Their final act as a band was to distribute their remaining assets to organisations that share their values and commitment to youth development.

We are honoured to have been chosen as one of the recipients of a significant donation from the Battle Town Band Legacy Fund. This generous gift will be used specifically to support our youth outreach work, helping us provide lessons, instruments, and opportunities to young players who might not otherwise have access to brass music. With government funding for music education continuing to fall short, this donation will help us fill that gap and ensure a strong pipeline of future brass players.
