Our junior brass bands for children aged 8-18
Our youth programme was reinvigorated in 2022 as part of the centenary celebrations of Lewes, Glynde and Beddingham Brass Band. Just like the senior band, our members come from all over Lewes and the surrounding areas.
We rehearse once a week (Thursdays, 7-7:45), at the All Saints Centre in Lewes. Our three groups offer a pathway from complete beginner to accomplished performer, and everyone is welcome – it doesn’t matter if you’ve never held a brass instrument in your life or if you have been having lessons for a few years – there’s a seat here with your name on it!
Rookies
Our beginner group for junior learners who have never played before, or who are fresh from a term of Whole Class Brass.
BrassSparklers
The next step after our Rookie group is BrassSparklers. Start learning to read music, and play with friends as part of a group.
BrassSparks
After a year or so of learning, move on to BrassSparks. Play more challenging music for public audiences, wearing the band uniform.
The aim of BrassSparks is to offer an accessible and enjoyable musical and social experience for young players in the Lewes area.
All three of our youth bands are led by qualified music teachers, who can help our young players learn and progress while having fun and gaining confidence,
We offer:
Who’s in charge?
Nathaniel and Joy are both full time specialist brass teachers, offering instrumental lessons throughout Sussex. They take care of our entire youth programme, running our Whole Class Brass sessions in the primary schools of Lewes, and leading the weekly Rookies, BrassSparklers and BrassSparks rehearsals on a Thursday evening.
