On Sunday 12 July, both our youth bands, BrassSparks & BrassSparklers came together to perform their end of year concert and what an afternoon we had!
With a packed audience at Lewes Town Hall, we were treated to some fantastic pieces of music and displays of talent from our young musicians. We were lucky enough to be joined by the Deputy Mayor, Councillor Matthew Bird who said a few words at the end of the concert and presented our two awards.
Each year, both BrassSparks and BrassSparklers give out two awards to players within the bands who have shown their commitment, hard work and kindness towards others in their band. This year, the BrassSparks award went to Matthew and the Sparklers Shield went to Owen. Congratulations to both – we are very proud of you!

As we close our year for our youth bands, we are already looking forward to September and this year, there are four members of BrassSparklers who will be moving up and joining BrassSparks.
We have to give a huge thank you to our two Musical Directors. Thank you to Joy our BrassSparklers conductor who always brings fun, laughter and great stickers in to the rehearsal room. Joy has the pleasure of meeting our young musicians at the very start of their brass band journey. She gives them the foundations of reading music, learning how to play a brass instrument and discovering what rehearsals are like.
Next up, we have to thank Nathaniel, the BrassSparks conductor. Nathaniel meets our players when they’ve had a bit more experience and feel confident with their instruments, he presents challenges to our young players and expands their musical experiences. Thank you to you both!

Both BrassSparks and BrassSparklers are always welcoming new members, no matter the playing experience. The first term is free and an instrument is included. If you know of any budding young brass players, check out our BrassSparks page below.
